Cordoba - Cuidad

Córdoba is a city in the southern Spanish region of Andalusia, and the capital of the province of Córdoba. It was an important Roman city and a major Islamic center in the Middle Ages. It’s best known for La Mezquita, an immense mosque dating from 784 A.D., featuring a columned prayer hall and older Byzantine mosaics. After it became a Catholic church in 1236, a Renaissance-style nave was added in the 17th century. Roman sites include the remains of a temple, a 1st-century B.C. bridge with 16 arches spanning the Guadalquivir river, and the ruins of a theater at the Museo Arqueológico, which contains Roman and Islamic artifacts. The 14th-century Alcázar de los Reyes Cristianos fortress has Moorish baths and terraced gardens with pools and fountains. Whitewashed houses with flower-filled balconies line the narrow streets of the medieval Judería, or Jewish quarter, home to a 14th-century synagogue. Outside the city lie the ruins of Madinat al-Zahra, a vast 10th-century Islamic palace complex.
